Matters of the Heart

Qalb is the general arabic word for heart, and that was the theme for 2017's Twins of Faith (TOF). Here are notes I took from those two days.

Did you know that apparently in arabic the word qalb also implies changing quickly and frequently? And that it is the nature of the heart, that it changes constantly.

I've always been intrigued with matters of the heart, so when I found out the theme for this years TOF, I was really excited. Below are notes from some of the talks that I hope will be of benefit. I have paraphrased it but in sha Allaah the meaning intended by the speakers remains.

The Heart by Sh.Alaa

The talk began with Sh.Alaa asking us which type of heart do we have. He then proceeded to share that there are 3 types of heart:
  • Qalb Saleem - the serene heart
  • The ill heart
  • The Zayd heart

Qalb Saleem

This is the type of heart that we should all aspire to have.

  • this heart is at ease
  • this heart is filled with Iman
  • if any disobedience is done, an individual with this type of heart will feel bad
  • to get this type of heart, you must do plenty of zikir (remembrance of Allah)

The Ill Heart
  • this heart has Iman but for example, it asks Allah to facilitate it in doing wrong
  • It is a heart that is in between, not as strong as Qalb Saleem
  • Majority of Muslims have this heart
  • Acquire knowledge to move up and achieve a heart that is Qalb Saleem

The Zayd
  • this type of heart is known as the lost one, the stray
  • those who have this type of heart likes to start fitnah
  • yet they don't know much about Islam
  • if a heart is sealed, Iman cannot enter it, and kufur cannot exit it

Talk on Qadr by Sh.Abdul Hakeem

Belied in qadr has many benefits:

  • it increases our tawheed (belief in Allah)
  • it increases our Iman
  • it helps us achieve sincerity, because you understand that you received what has already been destined for you
  • you achieve patience because everything that happened has happened by the will of Allah
  • it helps to avoid jealousy

I have more to share, but I'll post it in various blog posts so that it won't be too long and will be easier to read in sha Allaah.
